The Rolex Bubbleback is credited as being the first official Oyster Perpetual timepiece. which included a waterproof Oyster case as well as a Perpetual movement with self-winding technology. Its feature set is characterized by a rounded case back that was developed to make room for the movement itself. The barrel-shaped case also includes broader lugs and a distinct dial. which is set with Arabic numerals and sword-shaped hands. Dating back to the 1950s. this ref. 2940 is a precursor to the brand's immensely successful line of sports watches that were to follow in just a few short years. As an older pre-owned Rolex. the Oyster Perpetual 2940 also features an acrylic crystal. The luminous material on the dial has aged over the years and adds tremendous character to the overall watch.
