This Vintage Rolex watch is in overall excellent condition with light wear to the bracelet. case. bezel and crystal. The case appears to have been polished and has some scratches. The dial has aged from black to a consistent brown color throughout. The edge of the dial around the numbers towards the edge has aged a bit lighter than the center of the dial and has developed wear and has a crazed look when inspecting under a loupe. The lume in the hands has been color corrected and match the color of the lume on the dial very well. The lume on the dial has aged to a pleasing pale yellow/greenish color. The lume on the dial shows signs of degradation. The Oyster rivet bracelet is in good condition with light wear and light stretch between the links. The crystal has light wear.
Vintage Rolex Explorer 1016 Gilt Arabic Tropical Dial
By Paul Altieri
Rolex introduced the 1016 Explorer in 1959 and it was in production until 1989 making it one of the longest running produced references from the brand. The example we have here is circa 1967 and features a glossy dial. this would have been the last variation of the glossy dial before Rolex went to the matte version. This watch was born with a black dial and over the years it has turned to a beautiful chocolate brown color throughout. The dial has aged in a unique way and you won't find another exactly like this one. Collectors gravitate towards watches with color change aka tropical dials because they are one of a kind and not common. Rarity is a big factor for many collectors and this is a good chance to pick up something special.
