The model is famously waterproof up to 12.800 feet. which it can attribute to the addition of a Helium Escape Valve and a Triplock waterproof screw-down crown. The Helium Escape Valve. aka HEV. allows the gasses that accumulate within the case during decompression to escape while keeping the crystal over the dial intact. This feature also creates a more robust size and weight on the wrist. which will appeal to many modern Rolex collectors.
